Swing Set Manufacturer Moves Operations to Ashburnham, Massachusetts

Cedar Swing Set Manufacturer Moves Operations

PRESS RELEASE

March 1, 2013

Triumph Play Systems, specializing in children's play equipment, announced today that the relocation of their manufacturing facility to 15 Maple Ave, Ashburnham, Massachusetts has been completed. The company spent two months refurbishing the property and was up and operational by the self-set deadline of February 1, 2013. Production has already began for the impending Spring order rush and the company anticipates a successful sales year for 2013.

Founded in 2003 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania by owners Michael and Jaclyn Wooding, Triumph Play Systems manufactures residential wooden swing sets from northern white cedar. Northern white cedar is free of toxins and requires no chemical treatments or yearly maintenance, making it the safest lumber that is used in the playground industry. With over ten years of internet exposure, Triumph Play Systems is able to reach customers on a global scale.

The relocation was prompted by the growing percentage of sales leads generating from Connecticut, southern New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts. The other major factor was logistics. Moving to northern Massachusetts allows Triumph Play Systems to better utilize the ample supply of northern white cedar from Vermont and Maine, reducing delivery costs.

Triumph Play Systems spent two years seeking industrial property that would suit their needs and the search for real estate extended into Vermont and New Hampshire. The old mill property in Ashburnham was a perfect fit for both the current business needs and future expansion plans. The property has had many uses over the years including plastics manufacturing, furniture making and most recently a horse farm. It consists of over 35,000 square feet of space, spread over three buildings; old brownstones and newer steel buildings alike, and is situated on 5-1/2 acres. The main building accommodates office space, production, assembly, raw materials and finished parts storage. The cedar lumber is stored and air-dried in a former riding arena, and large items such as slides are stored in the old brownstone.

Future plans for the property include reconditioning the lower level of the 3-story brick building into an indoor showroom, expanding the production facility to house more automated equipment, and utilizing the open fields as gardens and display areas. The business also envisions taking advantage of the many south-facing fields and rooflines as future solar fields, offsetting the facility's electricity draw. The owners also have plans to recycle the only bi-product of production - wood scraps and shavings - into a source of heat, cutting back the reliance on fuel oil. Currently all shavings are being donated to local livestock farms for bedding, and the wood scraps are used by local folks that heat with wood.

Triumph Play Systems' plans for growth will also require a larger skilled labor staff. The business will look to the local vocational institution, Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, located less than 15 minutes away.
